John C. Gilliland II, Senior Counsel
John C. Gilliland II has been providing legal services required by the healthcare industry nationwide for more than forty years. His primary areas of practice are employment and labor law, wage and hour law, HIPAA, and health law. He is admitted to practice before the courts in Indiana, Kentucky, and Ohio, as well as before various federal courts.
Mr. Gilliland frequently presents programs for various local, state, and national organizations. He has presented programs concerning wage and hour, employment and HIPAA for the Home Care Association of America (HCAOA), the National Association for Home and Hospice Care (NAHC), the American Network of Community Options & Resources (ANCOR), the Community Health Accreditation Program (CHAP), numerous franchisers, the American Bar Association, and for many other national, state and local organizations.
He is the author of frequent articles on legal subjects, and the author or co-author of various manuals, published by our firm, to assist health care providers in preparation of employee handbooks and to comply with wage and hour laws and with the HIPAA Privacy, Breach Notification, and Security rules.
Mr. Gilliland is a graduate of The Pennsylvania State University, University Park, Pennsylvania, and received his law degree from the Georgetown University Law Center, Washington, D.C. During law school he was a Rotary Foundation Fellow at the Faculty of Law at Queen’s University, Belfast, Northern Ireland. He was a Distinguished Military Graduate of Army ROTC and served to the rank of Captain in the U.S. Army Military Intelligence.
In 2016, he received the Sheila McMackin Leadership Award from the Home Care Association of America in recognition of his “outstanding vision, dedication and leadership to the home care industry and the Home Care Association of America”.
